How long do I have to wait?

Investments come with many different warnings and snippets of advice. The recommendations are often the same, but sometimes we need to see how markets have adapted and recovered over time to fully appreciate the need to stay invested to reap the longer-term rewards.

“How long do I have to wait” is a fair question.

Most people have tried to “time the markets” and make that ultimate buy or sell decision. Sometimes it works, sometimes it fails. Each time the situation is different. There is no golden rule or standard set of circumstances.

One constant is that markets do recover. Having the faith to trust historical data and stick with the decisions you made during planning is always tough but likely to help you achieve your investment goals.

Past performance can never be used as a guarantee. However, it helps to appreciate how long-term planning is a better approach than taking short term chances.
